Bookmaker Tristan De Luca discusses the weekend racing; “The Group 1 South Australian Derby is the feature event at Morphettville where Strike the Stars will start all the rage. After a great run finishing 2nd to Mosheen in the Australian Guineas, the Anthony Cummings trained Gelding has struggled to break through for his second win and is currently favour ite at $3.90. He is closely followed in the market by Zabeelionaire ($4), who after finally breaking through for his maiden at Geelong a couple of weeks ago will be looking to make it three wins in four starts. Other chances come in the form of Tohunga ($6.5), Cornell ($12) and local hope Pelicano ($8) who is currently five wins from seven starts.
Metro racing at the Gold Coast see the Weight for Age Hollindale Stakes take centre stage. The German import Mawingo is the current favourite at $3.40 after a very impressive Australian debut at Flemington on April 14th. Kiwi galloper Shez Sinsational ($5) is second in the market after 3 Group 1 success’s in New Zealand this past year. Foreteller ($6.50), Wall Street ($8.5), Scenic Shot ($8) and Lights of Heaven ($7) – hoping to regain last year’s form which had her touted as Caulfield Cup favourite at one point – round out the other runners under $10.”
At Luxbet.com, make a fir st deposit and get it matched 100% up to $250. That’s a massive $500 to punt on the weekend racing and De Luca gives his tips for where your money should go:
SA Derby Tip – #1 Strike The Stars. The Anthony Cummings trained runner heads to Adelaide for an easier target after being competitive in Melbourne and Sydney including only being beaten 1.7 lengths by Ethiopia in the Australian Derby. That form should be strong enough here.
Best Value – Gold Coast Race 9 #12 Punch On. The winner of the Magic Millions 3YO Guineas at this track where she defeated the favourite here Easy Running. At double figure odds looks to be a big chance first up.
Lay – Hawkesbury Race 3 #17 Sacred Pins. Has form behind Landing but will be very short odds and drawing an inside barrier might not be such a good thing here in this big fie ld.
Best Backed – Hawkesbury Race 8 #11 Mental. The punters jumped on as soon as the market went up and are expecting a forward showing by the Snowden galloper first up.
